This message was recorded at home, because we will not be able to use our usual venue for Sunday morning. Kurt continuing the unrivalled series looks at the changing pace of the Gospel of Mark, Jesus is now beginning to speak plainly of the rejection, suffering and death that he is going to face. Peter and the disciples struggle to comprehend what Jesus is saying and fueled by good motives seek to intervene, not understanding Gods big story and their part to play in it.

Jesus and his disciples, as we see moves on from Tyre and Sidon and moves back down to Galilee to the region of Decapolis, again a majority Gentile province in what is now modern day Jordon. Jesus has compassion on this Gentile crowd and in the same way he feeds the 5000 he feeds the 4000 and all ate are satisfied. Jesus begins another cycle of more than enough. (Audio Only)

Mark continues to lead us on this journey and we are slowly coming to the point of no return. Jerusalem and the Cross are slowly coming into focus, but right here and now a deaf and dumb man is brought to Jesus by his gentile friends. The ground is prepared and the time is right. What is Jesus going to do?

This is no doubt a difficult passage, but we must always keep in mind all that we know about Jesus. It is also important, that when we read difficult and challenging scriptures like this, that we also keep in mind the bigger picture always. That we look through the lens of God’s unchanging mission. It has always been the world and its redemption.

Once again Jesus and the disciples find themselves under the close scrutiny of the religous leaders. Not concerned with Jesus words and deeds, they carefully scrutinise the practices of the disciples to see if they are following along with the 'traditions of the elders'. Once again God's word and mans tradition become a battle ground. It is easy for us to fall in the same trap when we take our eyes of of Jesus, so we need to be watchful.

Here we see Jesus break away from the crowd, the crowd are anxious to make Jesus a temporal king to solve their momentary problems but God has a bigger plan. Jesus goes up the mountain to pray and whilst there can see the disciples struggling in their boat against the wind and yet remains until some time later. We learn that Jesus has something he wants the disciples to see.

As the disciples shared with Jesus what they had seen seen and done and how they saw the kingdom advanced. These were without doubt glorious, giddy times for the 12. And in response Jesus offers them some escape from the crowd, a place to just be with Jesus, to rest and refuel. Except that it was probably not what they had expected. But Jesus is always enough.

What is amazing about this text, is that this is still early days in the disciple’s formation, the disciples were not the dynamic men we see in Acts…they were still blinded by doubts and worries, they were far from being a finished article and even despite that Jesus still sends them out. This was not as a result of rigourous training, this was rigourous training.

Jesus returns to his home town, and intead of having the carpet rolled out for him, he has a very challenging time. Familiarity robs those that he loves from recieving what he had longed to give them. Nazareth a small town that was easy to miss, easy just to pass by had a big place in God's plan to raise and nurture the long awaited Messiah! God is true to form, he takes what the world despises, and he uses it for his Glory!

This is an after the event audio recording of the message, due to a technical problem with the original video. In this passage Jesus is met by two desperate people. A woman who had been bleeding for 12 years and Jairus a synagogue ruler whose daughter is dying. Both of these people reach out to Jesus in faith and Jesus delivers them both from their suffering. Jesus demonstrating he is the Unrivalled One!

What should I expect?   Be' ddylwn i'n disgwyl?

We're always happy to meet new people, and visitors to us. We have an informal structure but the morning service usually takes the pattern of Story-Telling, Worship, Breaking of Bread and Prayer, and Teaching from the Bible.  The teaching time is aimed at 20 minutes with 10 minutes of discussion time either within or at the end of the talk. Once a month and throughout August we have an all-age service called 'Allsorts' where hopefully there is a little something for everyone! Tea, coffee and biscuits are served after the service where there is plenty of time to meet new people and ask more questions.

Dan ni'n hapus iawn i gyfarfod pobl newydd, ac ymwelwyr hefyd. Mae ein gwasanaethau yn anffurfiol, a fel arfer yn cynnwys amser i addoli, cael cymun, ac i amser i rannu storiau a hanes. Bydd 'na bregeth pob wythnos am ~20 munud gydag fel arfer 10 munud i sgwrsio ac ymateb. Unwaith y mis, a thrwy gydol mis Awst rydym cael gwasanaeth 'Allsorts' i bob oedran lle gobeithio bydd 'na rywbeth bach i bawb!
Lluniaeth ysgafn ar gael ar ôl y gwasanaeth. Digon o amser i sgwrsio, gofyn ychydig o gwestiynau ac wrth cwrs, dod i nabod ein gilydd yn well.

What about children and youth?  Be' am y plant a phobl ifanc?

We run a specific program just for children and young people. Most weeks the children stay with their parents at the start of the service as we worship (sing songs, tell our stories and break bread with one another!) together for the first part of the morning. Someone will usually announce when the children need to go to their respective programs. If it's your first time, you will need to go with your children and register them.

Rydym yn cynnal rhaglen benodol ar gyfer plant a phobl ifanc. Fel arfer, dyn ni i gyd yn addoli efo;n gilydd i ddechrau, a wedyn mae''r plant  a phobl ifanc yn mynd allan i'w grwpiau penodol. Bydd rhywun yn esbonio yn ystod y bore! Os dach chi'n dod am y tro cyntaf, ewch efo'ch plant i'w cofrestu diolos gwelwch chi'n dda.

Our aim is to make sure every child can be themselves in a safe and welcoming environment. Our children's workers are DBS checked and we have safeguarding procedures in place, we take our responsibility for the safety of children and young people very seriously.

We want the kids to have great fun whilst learning more about Jesus and meeting with Him.

Rydym ni eisiau'r plant cael hwyl yn dysgu am Iesu, a dod i nabod yr Arglwydd yn well.

If you have any questions about the programmes or want to know more about bringing your kids along on a Sunday then please email us or fill in our Contact Us form.

Os oes gynnych chi unrhyw gwestiwn am ein rhaglenni, neu os dych chi eisiau gwybod mwy am ddod â'ch plant chi ar ddydd Sul, ebostiwch ni neu llenwch y Ffurflen Gyswllt.
