Today, we are going to continue looking at this Advent theme from John's intimate and experienced, lived-out point of view. In 1 John 1:1-4, and then we are going to dip in later to some more of John’s writings in Revelation 22:20-21. We will see that Jesus Christ is God with us, God in us and coming King!

Anna Angell
Anna looks at John 1:14-18, a passage packed with mystery and joyful truth. She starts with another dive into how the first hearers of John’s gospel would have understood ‘The Logos’ (The Word) & what is therefore so breathtaking about John’s claims. She also looks at Jesus as the ‘Better’ tabernacle, a simple reading of ‘grace upon grace’ and the implications for our lives that Jesus gave ‘out of fullness’.

Geraint Owens
Geraint continues the Advent Series in John's Gospel, pointing out that whilst Matthew and Luke describe other aspects and details of Jesus' birth, John takes an eternal view...Jesus was involved in the very beginning of creation. Then, in this text, we are introduced to a key figure in the Gospel, John the Baptist. John comes to be a witness to this eternal light, "a light like no other". Geraint asks the question, What makes a good witness? Will you make a stand?

Julie Owen
Julie unpacks these first few verses in John's Gospel. In it, we see that Jesus is the Pre-Eternal, Pre-Existent One, and we see that he Co-Exists with the Father and the Holy Spirit. Julie digs deep into the scriptures in order to show that this light claimed by John has burned throughout eternity and now burns in every believer. The Challenge is, will we let that light shine as always intended it to?

Tim Rowlands
Tim encouraged us to remember this first Advent Sunday of 2025 that Advent is not just about Jesus' incarnation, even though this is still one of the biggest events in history. It is also a reminder that he is coming again, but in the meantime, he has arrived and is present in our lives as believers today. Tim spoke of God's Hope at work in us, in and through Christ and that Advent offers an opportunity for a reset.

Julie Owen
The key takeaway from this message is: Do we truly know Jesus, and are we living for His glory? Julie unpacks the final scenes in the temple; this time, it is not the religious authorities who are asking the questions. Jesus asks a question that they could not answer. In asking the question, Jesus demonstrates the fact that he is, in fact, God in human flesh. King David's descendant, but also Lord.

Following hours of heated interactions with the various factions of Jewish religious & political leadership, Jesus is approached by a scribe in the temple courts. This time, however, there is a genuine question … what is the summary of the Mosaic law? And what will this say about who Rabbi Jesus is? The answer reveals a stunningly simple formula for a godly life … a life soaked in and fueled by divine love.

Both the Sadducees and the Pharisees made up part of the Sanhedrin. But we can see, they were not the best of friends…and disagreed extremely at times. However, on the subject of Jesus, both parties stood in agreement...Jesus had to go and go quickly. It was the Sadducees' turn to take a shot at Jesus. Would they walk away too, having failed to shake the Unrivalled One?

The Pharisees and the Herodians in this passage were going to have to be cunning…they were going to have to trap Jesus with his own words. They were going to have to show that Jesus was a lawless phoney. But just like all the times before, it was their own hearts and motives that were put on show. Jesus, by asking a simple question, proved to be the wrecking ball in another failed attempt to trap Him.

Today, we see Jesus responding to the attempts of the Jewish religious leaders to trick him into saying something they can use to get him into trouble (and out of their way). Having clearly out-questioned them, Jesus next tells a thinly veiled parable, which is intended as a warning to these hate-filled men. But rather than Divine vitriol, this passage reveals the deep eternal heart of Father-love behind all God is and does.”

What should I expect?   Be' ddylwn i'n disgwyl?

We're always happy to meet new people, and visitors to us. We have an informal structure but the morning service usually takes the pattern of Story-Telling, Worship, Breaking of Bread and Prayer, and Teaching from the Bible.  The teaching time is aimed at 20 minutes with 10 minutes of discussion time either within or at the end of the talk. Once a month and throughout August we have an all-age service called 'Allsorts' where hopefully there is a little something for everyone! Tea, coffee and biscuits are served after the service where there is plenty of time to meet new people and ask more questions.

Dan ni'n hapus iawn i gyfarfod pobl newydd, ac ymwelwyr hefyd. Mae ein gwasanaethau yn anffurfiol, a fel arfer yn cynnwys amser i addoli, cael cymun, ac i amser i rannu storiau a hanes. Bydd 'na bregeth pob wythnos am ~20 munud gydag fel arfer 10 munud i sgwrsio ac ymateb. Unwaith y mis, a thrwy gydol mis Awst rydym cael gwasanaeth 'Allsorts' i bob oedran lle gobeithio bydd 'na rywbeth bach i bawb!
Lluniaeth ysgafn ar gael ar ôl y gwasanaeth. Digon o amser i sgwrsio, gofyn ychydig o gwestiynau ac wrth cwrs, dod i nabod ein gilydd yn well.

What about children and youth?  Be' am y plant a phobl ifanc?

We run a specific program just for children and young people. Most weeks the children stay with their parents at the start of the service as we worship (sing songs, tell our stories and break bread with one another!) together for the first part of the morning. Someone will usually announce when the children need to go to their respective programs. If it's your first time, you will need to go with your children and register them.

Rydym yn cynnal rhaglen benodol ar gyfer plant a phobl ifanc. Fel arfer, dyn ni i gyd yn addoli efo;n gilydd i ddechrau, a wedyn mae''r plant  a phobl ifanc yn mynd allan i'w grwpiau penodol. Bydd rhywun yn esbonio yn ystod y bore! Os dach chi'n dod am y tro cyntaf, ewch efo'ch plant i'w cofrestu diolos gwelwch chi'n dda.

Our aim is to make sure every child can be themselves in a safe and welcoming environment. Our children's workers are DBS checked and we have safeguarding procedures in place, we take our responsibility for the safety of children and young people very seriously.

We want the kids to have great fun whilst learning more about Jesus and meeting with Him.

Rydym ni eisiau'r plant cael hwyl yn dysgu am Iesu, a dod i nabod yr Arglwydd yn well.

If you have any questions about the programmes or want to know more about bringing your kids along on a Sunday then please email us or fill in our Contact Us form.

Os oes gynnych chi unrhyw gwestiwn am ein rhaglenni, neu os dych chi eisiau gwybod mwy am ddod â'ch plant chi ar ddydd Sul, ebostiwch ni neu llenwch y Ffurflen Gyswllt.
